My game is out now!

re:curse is a surreal RPGmaker horror game inspired by the likes of OFF, Ib, LISA: The Painful RPG and Yume Nikki.

Play as distraction-prone researcher Linda Langley and explore as your laboratory distorts and degrades around you. Send emails. Grapple with your clown infestation. Face consequences. Maybe even survive!

This is a game about…

  • doors
  • screens
  • bitrot
  • self-fulfilling loops
  • computer viruses (not real ones)
  • trans-temporal communication software
  • gay subtext
  • surprises
  • secrets

re:curse was solo developed as a passion project, mostly between 2020-2021. I’ve returned to it and added the final touches necessary to make a finished game. Bundled with the game is a trove of bonus content for your perusal, including uncompressed source filesconcept artunreleased original music3d files, and more. I hope you enjoy!

i have grown tremendously as a technician since getting my current job and i would not trade it back because it has increased the boundaries of my creative sandbox 100fold and also lent me a degree of innate Understanding when it comes to machine generated imagery. but

it has come at the cost of like. the sort of perplexed dumbstruck fascination when looking at an image/moving image that i didn’t quite Get processwise. which drew me into this crevice here in the first place. now that ive advanced into the Getter my usual sources for strange, dreamlike imagery made by computers are less potent

like i used to frequent fruitsoftheweb and look at out of context soft body simulations and be like “why are they doing that to that teapot/rabbit/jade dragon statue” but now im out here reading the papers and mining them for algorithms

this is part of the reason why i can never truly hate GANs regardless of what shady purposes grifters are using them for if you tune them right (read: wrong) they make some truly fucking Images

also they dont tell you this job makes you immune to the uncanny valley as well as all manner of visual terror. like my monitor did This to my desktop bg today completely at random and the glitch didnt show up at all in screenshots and i was just like “it’s monday ig”

Hey!! Your game is really cool and I want to share it with some friends that don't really use itch, do you have any plans to bring it to steam? Hopefully you haven't already answered this lol

Thank you for the kind words!

As for a Steam release, I don’t have any plans for it currently—it costs $100 to submit your game to the store, and I want to keep the game free, so the investment doesn’t really make sense. Plus, the game has secrets and goodies in the file archive itself, which Steam obscures from the user, so the experience wouldn’t be the same.
